Loretta A. Forbes
I am so excited that you have taken the time out of your busy schedule to visit my site! Let me introduce myself… My name is Loretta Forbes and I am passionate about all things girls and women! I am a self-esteem advocate, hoping to empower girls and women to love themselves and embrace their uniqueness!
I truly believe when girl power is activated, that girls can change the world! In fact, there is no power like girl power! Research has even shown that the more educated and empowered girls become, the better our society becomes. We are indeed the heartbeat of the universe and therefore we must continue to instill positivity in girls so that they can be empowered!
Why am I so passionate about this work?
Well, when I was younger, I struggled with confidence and low self-esteem. From the outside looking in, people thought I had it all together. I went to the best schools, came from a good family, and was even voted most likely to succeed in high school! I was very social and involved in many extra-curricular activities throughout my elementary, middle and high school years, but there was one thing missing…ME! Not literally, of course :), but figuratively speaking, I was missing my identity and purpose in life. I did not who I was, what I wanted to be, and why I even existed. So, I became good (Really good) at pretending! I did not want anyone, especially my parents, to know I that I was struggling with my confidence, so I always acted as if everything was fine.
I soon realized, however, that ignoring the problem only created more problems. I started making poor choices and developed unhealthy habits due to my low self-esteem. These choices and habits followed me in college and graduate school as I found myself becoming a chameleon, wanting so badly to fit in and be accepted from others. This was so important to me, because I hoped that others’ acceptance of me would help me accept myself. (Boy was I wrong!)
It wasn’t until a good friend of mine knocked some good sense into me when I was jealously venting to him about a mutual friend and all of her “perfection”. He stopped me mid-sentence and said “Lo, if only you could meet yourself…if you knew how beautiful, intelligent and special you are, you would never compare yourself to anyone”. Talk about a light bulb turning on! It was at that moment that my world began making a positive change! I started actively working on ways that I could boost my self-confidence and self-awareness to become the best version of Loretta.
I’ll admit, I have yet to reach the best version of myself, but I’m much more confident and comfortable in my own skin all because I made a decision to change. I hope to inspire, motivate and encourage girls and women, just like you, to do the same so that you can reach your highest potential and become your best self!
